Trigger Points

trigger-points-mapTrigger points (tp) or muscle knots are hyperirritable spots located in a palpable taut band of  muscle tissue. The spots are painful on compression and can produce referred regional pain (zone of reference) and a local twitch response. The fact that they are not well known among health professionals, often causes a wrong diagnosis and a wrong cure. For example, the trigger points on the piriformis muscle can cause a similar pain than that of low back and sciatica pain, so they  are sometimes treated wrongly, with the result of a temporary recover that does not solve the problem.

Fortunately trigger points can be treated effectively especially with deep stroking massage and ischemic compression. Moreover, everyone can learn how to treat his or her own trigger points.
