Sports Massage

free-climbingThe aim of sports massage is to give the athlete extra performance, promote and reduce the recovery period. It can decrease soreness, improve circulation, reduce muscle tension, and restore range of motion. According to timing, sports massage can be divided into the following categories:

pre event massage – its intent  is to assist the athlete in preparing for a competition or workout, to stimulate the athlete in warming up, increase circulation to the muscle, maintain the athlete’s flexibility. This massage is always fast, never deep, and lasts no longer than 10 or 15 minutes. Usually administered through clothing, no oil or lubricant are required. It only targets the muscles used in the athlete’s sport. It can also be used between events on the same day.

trekking-escursionismo.post event massage – administered right after a workout or competition, after a cool down period. The aim of this massage is to assist the athlete to recover from a workout or competition, relieve cramping, reduce soreness, enhance venous return, promote lymphatic drainage and flush metabolic waste products. In a few words to relieve post exercise soreness and prevent the athlete‘s body from tightening  while cooling down. It also helps the athlete’s body to start recover. It targets the muscles that the athlete has used in his or her sport. Oil or lotion is applied. Should not last more than 30 minutes.

recovery massage – Usually administered at least one day after the athlete has completed a competition or workout, to reduce soreness, restore blood flow, increase range of motion, promote lymphatic drainage and reestablish balance and a sense of well-being. It can be a full body massage and can last 60 to 90 minutes. It calms the athlete’s nervous system.

This massage can be deep, address chronic problems, increase flexibility and strength. It also calms the athlete’s nervous system. It can be a full body massage and can last 60 to 90 minutes.

injury management massage – to treat chronic states of injury, post operation conditions, rehabilitation, ect. It pertains to physiotherapy.
